natural light maternity sessions

Natural light sessions use the daylight that fills the studio to create soft, natural looking images. My space has two large 8-foot by 6-foot bay windows, three additional windows, and a large sliding glass door, which allows beautiful daylight to fill the entire studio. Because natural light changes throughout the day, these sessions are scheduled about two hours after sunrise or within three hours before sunset, when the light looks its best. The result is a softer, more relaxed style of photo compared to the bold, dramatic lighting used in some studio setups, making it perfect for bright, clean, timeless images.

when should you book your maternity session

The best time to book is around 18–20 weeks, mainly because my calendar typically fills 1 month in advance, and booking early gives us space to design your session properly. Another reason, you don't want to rush through this, being pregnant is not permanent, thankfully, so when you're thinking about all the things to do before baby is here, remember that this is also a time in your life that is fleeting, delicate, and deserves attention too!

As for when to photograph, I recommend scheduling your session between 28 and 34 weeks. Your belly is defined during this window, and you’re usually still comfortable enough to move confidently and enjoy the experience. The earlier we begin planning, the more thoughtfully we can create something that feels aligned with how you want to see yourself in this season.

My Freeland studio, which I endearingly call the bungalow, is a natural light photography studio located in Freeland, Maryland, just north of Baltimore in Baltimore County and only a few minutes from I-83.

I designed this space from the ground up to feel calm, warm, and intentionally simple. What used to be a 500 square foot garage is now a bright natural light studio after I had large 6 by 8 foot windows installed in the bays so daylight could completely flood the room. I filled the space with lush plants, earthy tones, and deep natural textures so it feels cozy and grounded instead of overly styled. My goal was to keep everything minimalist but still rich and inviting. The goal was to create a photography studio space that feels elevated and beautiful but is still comfortable and welcoming.

The studio is where I photograph newborn sessions, maternity sessions, family photos, and milestone sessions for clients throughout the greater Baltimore, Maryland area.

can my partner or children also be in photos?

All day everyday yes. I have five children, yes you read that right, and my last pregnancy it was so important to me to incorporate my kids to document that moment in all our lives. Your partner and children are MORE than welcome to the session and I have a style guide that helps with what they should wear too!

i’m not sure how to pose. will you guide me?

100%. You will never be left wondering what to do with your hands like Ricky Bobby hahaha.

I’ll guide you through everything, start to finish. Posture, angles, where to place your hands, how to shift your weight, where to look, what to do with your shoulders, all the tiny details that make an image feel strong and effortless.

I’ll demonstrate poses, adjust small things in real time, and keep the pace calm so you can settle in instead of overthinking. The goal is for you to feel confident and supported while we create images that look natural, refined, and intentional.

what’s the difference between editing and retouching?

editing (batch editing)

Before you see your gallery, every image is lightly edited so they all have the same consistent look and color as the photos you see in my portfolio.

This step includes simple adjustments like fixing brightness, correcting color, adjusting contrast, and making sure the lighting looks consistent across the whole gallery. Think of it as the basic finishing step that makes everything look clean and uniform.

full retouching

Full retouching is applied only to the images you select from your gallery.

This is where the more detailed adjustments happen, such as removing temporary blemishes like acne, softening skin, minimizing small distractions like scars, and making minor fixes to things like clothing wrinkles or background distractions.

The goal of retouching isn’t to change how you look. It’s simply to clean up small things so the final images feel natural, confident, and camera-ready while still looking like you.
