Soldiers Delight Owings Mills Family Session

Listen, I know picking a spot for family photos can feel like a whole thing—too crowded, too boring, too “weird park smell.” But let me put you on to one of my absolute favorite places: SOldiers Delight in Owings Mills Maryland. It’s got that perfect mix of wide-open fields, cool rocky textures, and just enough trees to give everything a soft, natural feel without looking like you’re lost in the woods. Basically, it makes my job easy and your photos look amazing.

WHY I LIKE IT:

First off, it’s not your typical park. Soldiers Delight is a **serpentine barren**, which is just a fancy way of saying the soil is super unique and supports rare plants you won’t see just anywhere. What that means for your photos is that the landscape is stunning year-round.

I love shooting here because it feels natural without trying too hard. No weirdly placed benches, no awkward playgrounds in the background—just open space that lets your family be the focus. Kids can run around, everyone can breathe, and we get those real, unscripted moments that make the best photos.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

  • Footwear matters. It’s not a bad hike or anything, but the ground can be a little uneven, so maybe skip the stilettos (unless you’re feeling bold—then go off).

  • No fake green grass. This isn’t a golf course. If you love earthy tones and natural textures, this is your spot.

  • Privacy. Unlike some of the bigger parks, we won’t have random people in the background of your photos, which is a win for everyone.
